Important Relocation Tips
A successful relocation depends on effective communication and a mutual understanding of what will occur throughout your move. The items listed below are very important. Please take a few moments to read through them.
The bill of lading and other move documents may be sent to your home. Please keep them in a safe place -- especially so the packers don't pack them in a box -- and give them to your driver on loading day. He will need these documents as proof he is authorized to transport your belongings.
Review the transit protection which you or your employer has selected. Transit protection is the basis for any claim settlement resulting from lost or damaged articles.
Jewelry, coins, furs, collections, legal documents and any other high value items need to be taken with you. Your transit protection does not provide coverage for loss or damage to these items.
Provide me with a listing of all items with extraordinary high value. Such items may require an appraisal and additional transit protection.
Any item labeled as flammable, corrosive, hazardous, harmful, poisonous or reactive cannot be transported for safety reasons. This includes normal household cleaning items which can produce hydrochloric acid or chlorine gas when combined with other ingredients. Propane tanks cannot be transported unless they have been professionally purged of all propane.
Once we agree to service dates, please review them carefully and call me immediately if a change needs to be made.
Call me if the packers or driver do not arrive by 10:00 a.m. on the day to which the service was committed. be happy to check on their status.
On load day, reconfirm with me all destination phone contact numbers, addresses, and service requirements (unpacking, appliance servicing, etc.).
On load day, confirm the delivery spread with the driver.
Please be available for the driver on all days of the delivery spread. Two hours free waiting time is provided at destination; however, additional costs will accrue after two hours.
Perform an inventory check off of each item at the time of delivery and annotate any missing or damaged items in the appropriate columns. These notations are very important in the event a claim is filed.
Movers can not go into attic.
If you do need to file a claim, please contact me so a claim form can be sent to you. According to the contract with your employer, claims need to be filed within 9 months of the delivery date. Your claim will be settled as expeditiously as possible in accordance with the transit protection coverage.
